Refresh Your Home by Applying New Vinyl Siding

When you decide to boost the curb appeal of your home by applying new siding, it is important to use the correct procedure to ensure you are happy with the finished project. Use these three steps to complete the project the right way.

Prep for the Project

The first step in applying vinyl siding is choosing the color you want. Once the siding is delivered to your home and you are ready to start installing it, take down the old siding and wrap the entire building with house wrap to keep it protected throughout the siding process.

Gather Necessary Tools

Having all of your tools and materials in one convenient place will make the vinyl siding process much easier. In addition to your siding, you need to gather J beads, corner beads, a starter bead, nails and a drip cap. You should also gather all of the following tools.

  • Scaffolding
  • Chop saw
  • Tin snips
  • Tape measure
  • Ladder
  • Large square
  • Hammer

Get Started

Take the starter bead and apply it to the side of your house half an inch above the foundation. It is vital to make sure the bead is level to keep the siding level. You can then attach the first piece of siding to the starter bead. Make sure it is connected tightly so that it won’t come loose during high winds. However, when it is time to nail the siding to the house, make sure you leave a little room for the vinyl to breathe and expand.

Continue the same process up the side of the house, cutting pieces of siding as needed to make them fit. When you reach windows, use J beads to secure the siding around each window. You’ll use the corner beads to navigate the corners of the house and start the siding on the next side.

Siding your house takes a lot of time and effort. Hiring a vinyl siding expert will make the process easier so you can enjoy your new siding sooner.
